Israel's Green Party gathering success

Israel's Green Party is growing fast, with plans to pick up four or five seats, based on their 25,000 supporters. Plans include better public transport, a large reduction of private car use, planting thousands of trees on the streets, improving street cleanliness and creating dozens of public gardens and city parks.

New global information centre for Greens launches in 2009

2009 will see the launch of Australia's Global Greens secretariat, the world's first global political party network. Senator Bob Brown, Australian Green co-leader says, "This global secretariat is another big step towards the world's first truly global and democratic party network".

"This secretariat will be an information centre, with translation sevices to help empower Greens in countries as diverse as Kenya, Pakistan, Taiwan, Japan, Brazil and Australia...the secretariat will help the Greens tackle problems like global warming, nuclea profileration and the spectre of food shortages in an age of unprecedented global wealth".

New Zealand (along with Sweden) has one of the highest proportion of Green MPs in the world.
